My junior

I was out a while ago and I had the opportunity to meet this interesting guy. Tall and slender with a boyish look to him. From his appearance, you wouldn't know much about his background. He's currently working at some travel bag/luggage retail store at Tun Jugah. He's making around RM1k a month. So far so good? Pleasant guy working after SPM at such a high paying part time job? No, not really.

The thing is, he's been working since Form 4. Having been to Form 4 for only two weeks, he's a High School dropout in a family of 5 living on the first floor of a shophouse. What I admire though is how content he is. He's content and relaxed talking to a group of 6 current and prospective University students. So what do u think about what he has in store for him a decade down the line? Branch manager? Supervisor? How about salary? Would a graduate fare better than a non graduate? I'm just worried about both him and I, a non graduate and a graduate getting a dead end job.
What got me thinking was, how different life would be if i were born into a different family? If I were born to a lower class family(no offense, I'm not judging), will I work harder in school to be the scholar of the family or would I go out at try my best in society earlier? Or if I were born into this ultra rich family, will I just be this playboy type or would I be humble, honest and hardworking, not being known as the son of this rich man, but someone worthy of his own?
Seeing my friend, it makes me thankful that I'm in a OK family with the freedom in my pursuit of happiness and I hope that, he too, is pursuing his own path.

Shades of Grey

generations unfold
father to son
mother to daughter
where one leaves off
the other follows
destined to repeat each others mistakes
each others triumphs
but how do we see the world if not through their lenses
the same fears
the same desires
do we see them as an example to follow
or as a warning of what to avoid
choosing to live as they have
simply because it is what we know
or, driven to create our own identity
and what happens when if find them to be a disappointment?
can we replace them?
our mothers
our fathers
or will destiny find a way to drive us back
back to the familiar comforts of home

God?

I had this harddisk failure last week when I came back to Kuching, my first thought was crap, I didn't back up. I cursed my luck and as I took the now-decommissioned Harddisk for a test run at my friend's pc, the only thing I could think of at that time was to pray... Well, if god doesn't answer prayers, then I must be really lucky.

I recently upgraded to vista, and enabled auto system backup to another functioning drive. The prob is, I never actually let it run before. The schedule was 2am every Sunday but my computer is never on at that time. I left Kuching on Friday and that's when everything started to fit together.

First, I forgot to turn off the PC before i left.
Second, my father did not turn off the PC till past Sunday, enabling it to Backup for it's FIRST and FINAL time on the 3rd of March.

Now guess wad, I was saved from my FIRST HD failure from my FIRST backup. :D
Accursed Western Digital Sata drive.

And this my friend, is a miracle, to a geek. >.<
